History of Stille Havet
This historical information is provided by Thomas Amberson.
Our family had been going to the North Shore of Lake Superior for many years.
As children I remember Mom and Dad, Solveig
and Roger
would pack up the station wagon and we would head up north. During the hot muggy
summer months in Minneapolis Dad would usually say "I can't stand this
heat let's get up north where it is cooler." Back then we would stay at
Grand View lodge (which has since been closed) or we would head up the Sawbill,
or GunFlint trail for some camping. Many trips were also taken to the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area.
In 1972 Mom and Dad were staying at Cascade Lodge and asked the owner at that
time (Carl Odemark) if he were to buy land would it be on Lake Superior or on
an interior lake. He recommended Lake Superior because of its many moods and
expansive views. Dad contacted a realtor and bought the first property he was
shown. Two years later Roger and his three sons along with a carpenter were
building an "A" frame cabin later to be known as "Stille Havet."
Winter 2003-2004 was the first season that the Amberson family has offered their lovely home for vacation rentals.
The Amberson's Home and the old Stille Havet Vacation Home was lost in a fire on March 3rd, 2008.

An early morning fire comsumed the home
completely. No one was hurt. Pray for the Amberson's for peace and wisdom. Romans
8:28 "And we know all things God works
for the good of those who love him, who have
been called according to his purpose."
Thank you to everyone who joined us these last 4 years.
